Racing in May

This weekend was the Cardiff leg of the CBYC Shanghai Cup and two of our boats headed over for two more days of racing. Hero kept the local yacht services busy with a catalogue of breakages, but salvaged a credible 7th. After a strong performance in Portishead, a scratch crew on Budge managed to do just enough to win the non-IRC fleet and the Nimrod Cup by a single point.

The event was a huge success with likeminded crews from across the Bristol Channel enjoying racing in different venues and against different boats. I’d like to thank Simon from Hero for representing the PCC on the organising committee as well as our hosts at CBYC who couldn’t have made us feel more welcome. We’re hoping to arrange next years event this autumn so it can be included as an integral part of our 2017 racing calendar.

Back to Portishead and our next race is Cockburn 2 this Friday evening: start is off Avonmouth at 19:00 for the slow fleet and 19:05 for the fast. This is followed by the Spring Regatta on 14 May (start 12:30 off Portishead) where we’ll be running 3-4 short races over a single high tide, with a prize for the best set of results (no discards). Then on 21/22 May there’s the Offshore Race: start is 10:00 on Sat off Portishead and we’ll race down channel, returning to finish off Penarth – after a night in Cardiff we’ll race back to Portishead the following afternoon. Hope lots of you will be joining us on the water, it’s going to be a busy month!
