Racing Schedule

The racing schedule is ramping up now, so here’s a quick reminder of what’s coming up:

25 Apr (i.e. Tues) – Cockburn 1: the first of our biggest series of the year, with two fleets and prizes for the top three in each. This year we’re using the widely adopted IRC and NHC handicaps (for fast / cruiser fleets respectively) for the first time. It’s also the first of our midweek evening races with starts of 18:30 and 18:35 (for cruiser and IRC fleets respectively) off Avonmouth – the starts will be held for anyone in the 18:00 lock (within reason!).

6/7 May – Shanghai Cup (Portishead leg): this series is run by Cardiff Bay Yacht Club (with PCC members on the committee) and is our annual opportunity to enjoy racing in a bigger fleet. We’ll be locking out between 14:00 and 15:00 on the Sat PM and running 3-4 races before retiring to the H&W where we’ve a reservation for 100+ people! On the Sunday we’re locking out 14:30 to 15:30 for a single race. It’s looking like there’ll be more entries from Swansea than Portishead for the second year running so I’m really hoping for some more local entries – if you have a boat but no crew or are crew looking for a boat then let me know. 9 May – Cockburn 2: another midweek (Tues) evening race – same timings as Cockburn 1

20/21 May – Shanghai Cup (Cardiff leg) – we’ll be heading down on the Friday afternoon (prob the 16:30 lock) for 5-6 races over two days, with dinner on the Sat, prize giving on the Sun and free berthing in the CBYC marina. The tides work for a late return on the Sunday evening. Obviously it would be great if everyone competing the Portishead leg could make it to Cardiff, but it’s not compulsory – better to only compete the Portishead leg than not at all!

25 May – Cockburn 3: another midweek (Thurs) evening race – timings 30 mins later than Cockburn 1 & 2.

It’s going to be a busy 5 weeks – hope to see you on the water!
